Various images from a personal project covering Manchester's Northern Quarter. I'm concentrating on the various colours, artwork, architecture and shops that, for me, characterise this particularly 'avante-garde' area. The builders and cranes are moving in now, so Phase 2 of the project (recording the changes) will now begin. Hopefully they won't change it too much... This area of Manchester is traditionally associated with all things 'Bohemian', with sex shops sitting next door to retro clothing stores...art galleries next door to cafes etc etc. The street art in these images, by its very nature, is transient. Much of the artwork in these images has now disappeared, or been covered by fresh paintings, and I try to show this wherever possible. It never ceases to amaze me how I can find something new every time I walk round this relatively small area. I also try to show examples of artwork where the artist has been following a theme. My main aim is to record it as it happens, so there's a permanent record of fleeting moments. I hope you enjoy looking at the images, and please don't hesitate to contact me if you'd like a print. I'm also in the process of writing an article about it for an upcoming issue of a prominent arts magazine.

KREK, one of the authors of the more skilled/artistic artwork you'll see in the NQ. He was once jailed for his part in the graffiti of the Manchester area (released on appeal, and after a public outcry) and is now helping youngsters with his talent.
